In addition to observation data, the consortium manages a set of numerical models that provide more detailed information, and also have the ability to generate forecast data. In this context, UAlg contributes with SOMA system, an Algarve coast operational model. This model runs every day on University's servers, providing three-day forecasts of the region's oceanographic variables.
Observation and forecast data are integrated into an open-access web-page viewing platform. This whole set of information allows companies in the sea economy to improve their performance, while also ensuring an improvement in the maritime environment, the safety of sea operations, the control of maritime pollution, fisheries, aquaculture, energy, tourism and others."
