Sediment core collection campaign in Tavira Island
On Monday August 31st the MOBILE project team (Carlos Loureiro, Conceição Freitas, João Cascalho, Katerina Kombiadou, Susana Costas, Teresa Drago e Vera Lopes) held the 1st field campaign for sediment core collection in the marshes of Tavira Island. The team sampled of a total of around 3m depth, that will be analysed and dated in the next months to identify sediment facies and vertical accretion rates, thus allowing to reconstruct the phases of marsh development and related conditions in the past and assess the implications to the resilience of the fronting barrier island in the future.
