CIMA is RECRUTING

It is now open a call for 1 Research grant for Doctor post in Coastal Oceanography, within the project MONITOR - Multi-model investigation of tidal energy converter reliability (EAPA_333/2016), co-funded by Interreg Atlantic Area.

The applicants must be graduated (BSc or MSc) on Marine Sciences, Oceanography, and Coastal Engineering and have a PhD in Coastal Oceanography or Coastal Engineering. The activities to be developed include: deploy and process oceanographic data from Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP) site surveys; processing of meteo ocean datasets; collaborate with tidal developers on planning and installing tidal energy prototypes on two high energetic sites (Fall of Warness, Orkney Islands, Scotland and Fromveur Strait, France); analyse performance data from tidal turbines, combining physical and numerical models with real data from a deployment to optimise energy production; produce reports and guidelines that will support reliability and survivability of tidal turbines at sea; and to provide input to all deliverables related with the MONITOR research tasks. The candidate has to have availability to travel for short periods to the UK, France and Spain.

The work will be developed at CIMA – Centre on Marine and Environmental Research from the University of Algarve, jointly with the Researcher André Pacheco, principal investigator of the MONITOR project and coordinator at the University of Algarve.
