Joanna M. Gonçalves has just published a new paper in the Journal Aquatic Toxicology about the recent results of her PhD entitled “Gender effects of nanoplastics and emerging contaminants mixtures in 𝘔𝘺𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘶𝘴 𝘨𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴” with M. Benedetti, G. d’Errico, F. Regoli and M.J. Bebianno.
The aim of the work was to assess the effects of two emerging contaminants (nanoplastics and the cytotoxic drug 5-fluorouracil) individually and as mixtures in the gonads of the mussel 𝘔𝘺𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘶𝘴 𝘨𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴. The results indicate that the uptake, fate, and impact of emerging contaminants of concern can be significantly influenced by sex.
