A. Rita Carrasco is an Assistant Researcher at CIMA/ARNET - University of Algarve A. Rita Carrasco is an Assistant Researcher at CIMA/ARNET - University of Algarve, holding a degree in Environmental Engineering, an MSc degree in Water and Coastal Management, a PhD in Marine, Earth, and Environmental Sciences, Coastal Dynamics Branch, Specializing in Geosciences. She is currently on the Coordination Board of CIMA, responsible for the scientific coordination of the objective ‘Assessing and Mitigating Global Risks’. She teaches at the Bachelor's and Master's levels at the University of Algarve, covering subjects related to climate change and coastal geochemistry.
Her primary focus is on coastal geomorphology, particularly the physical and ecological interactions within wetland ecosystems. Her research explores the biogeomorphic adaptations and resilience of coastal wetlands to climate change. A. Rita Carrasco collaborated on several scientific projects spanning beach morphodynamics, estuarine evolution, inlet dynamics, and coastal conservation. With a specific interest in salt marsh restoration strategies and the optimization of nature-based solutions, her work contributes to the development of well-functioning and sustainable ecosystems.
