Geoparque Algarvensis

In 2020, the Municipality of Albufeira signed a contract with the University of Algarve, through two members of CIMA, Delminda Moura and Sónia Oliveira. The objectives of this collaboration, which will continue for 2021, are the geomorphological, paleogeographic and paleontological characterization, and also the inventory of geosites in the area of Albufeira, included in the aspiring UNESCO world geopark Geopark Algarvensis Loulé- Silves- Albufeira (https://geoparquealgarvensis.pt/sobre/quem-somos).

This study involved several field work campains and the production of four reports, and was the basis for the creation of geopathways and interpretive signs of the landscape. These resources have didactic, cultural and touristic purposes.
